66th National Awards: Amit Ravindernath Sharma receives Best Popular Film honour for 'Badhaai Ho'

It was a double whammy for Junglee Pictures' 'Badhaai Ho' today at the 66th National Award which was held in Delhi. The film took away two prestigious awards back home as the film won the award for the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment and Surekha Sikri won the award for the best supporting actor (female) for her role in this 2018 film.

Unwell, Surekha Sikhri arrived at the function in a wheelchair to receive her award, while Amit Sharma was felicitated with a gold medal for his special contribution.
It was truly a moment when Amit Sharma was honored at the function with the National Award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment for his 2018 film, 'Badhaai Ho'.

While talking to timesofindia.com, director Amit Sharma had earlier said, “It is a validation of what I set out to do - make a family film on a subject that some would consider offbeat. Five years ago, people would have called it an offbeat film, but this award proves that films are films. The distinction between offbeat and commercial does not exist anymore."

Junglee Pictures’ 'Badhaai Ho', directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles, revolves around the story of a middle-aged couple who gets unexpectedly pregnant and how the family, especially their elder son and the society deals with the scenario. The film along with the actor's noteworthy performances, the film is also lauded for its quirky concept.
