Malkhan Singh claims that story of this movie has been taken from his biography titled Malkhan- The Story of a Bandit King and therefore it should not be screened for the public without him watching and approving the movie.
Malkhan Singh, who struck terror in the heart of the Chambal ravines in the 1980s now calls himself a ‘rebel’. In his seventies now, Malkhan, with an 'impressive' tally of 100 cases of dacoity, murder and kidnapping, had been quite a draw in the Chambal badlands.
Second petitioner is Jandel Singh – grandson of slain dacoit Mal Singh. He claims that the film of based of Mal Singh gang and the directors have include a woman in the story which is not true. He too wants a special screening of this movie for him before its release. Mal Singh is believed to have committed over 1000 robberies and 185 murders which includes killing of several police officers. He was shot dead in 1955 while sitting under a banyan tree.
Jandel Singh’s advocate Girraj Singhal said he had sent representations to the filmmakers appraising them with their objections, but in vain. Jandel Singh also says that the film portrays a bad image of Chambal region and it deserves to be banned.
“Since there was no response from the directors we had to move court,” said Singhal. Their petitions will be heard by Justice S A Dharmadhakari and Justice V S Ahluwalia on Friday. Based on the life of dacoits of Chambal, Madhya Pradesh, the film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey in pivotal roles.
