Changing behaviour patterns and adverse mental health conditions leading to a surge in suicide cases spurred Puneet Issar’s writer-actor son Siddhant to make a short film on the topic.
The film titled, Resurrection... Jaago Aur Jiyo, is a case study. Based on suicide prevention, it will make people aware about the mindset and suppressed thoughts which one goes through before taking the extreme step. Sid, who was active in stage plays and direction is also acting in this film. The film which releases next week on social media platform will see Siddhant bringing out the reality behind the suicidal tendencies and depressed thought process.
When contacted Siddhant said the work in the film started during the lockdown in March. His dad added, “Everyday there has been a news of people committing suicide. Since many cases were tied to the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to take up the issue. The unprecedented times are a lesson on life and it has caused distress.â€
The Covid situation has left people vulnerable to mental problems. “They developed suicidal behaviour,†said Puneet. Siddhant added, “Though it highlights the problem, it also talks in detail about positive behaviour. One must stay strong and should not give up on life.†However, he said that his film highlights the connect/association between depression and highly specific psychological stress, which lead to deaths during the pandemic.
Sources say besides touching the sweeping consequences, the short film brings out the strange phenomenon where people without any existing anxiety or psychiatric disorders experience such symptoms.
“Loneliness, no social contact are main factors. Financial crunch is there too,†said Puneet. The film carries a positive message. The father-son duo had a long discussion before the project kicked off. Siddhant, who likes to make situation-based films, added, “Corona impacted health. Later, people suffered financially. But the biggest stress went into the human mind. And it led to psychological issues due to uncertainty, bleak future prospects, etc.â€
BOLLYWOOD CONNECT?
Whether Bollywood happenings, growing untoward incidents in the film world prompted him to make a compact yet detailed project. He said, "Not exactly. I worked on the basis of figures released by the WHO. Bollywood is always under scanner because it's popular. Industry is the worst hit. While superstars can sustain those who suffered the most are budding actors, junior artists, technicians and daily wagers."
The film carries a message that life is beautiful. "In 2019 we didn't know what's coming in 2020. So, just presuming that it's going to be worse is not a great idea. Even Hindu mythology says how difficult it is to get a manushya yoni. Also, committing suicide is a sin and an act of cowardice. I want to tell world to retain their fighting spirit."
